Give MPs orientation on security and intelligence – Dr. Kwesi Biney

The Director of the Royal Kingdom Security Network Limited, a private security firm, Dr. Kwesi Biney, has underscored the need to give orientation on security and intelligence to members of Parliament.

According to him, MPs, upon assumption of office be schooled on personal security matters at GIMPA by a knowledgeable security person and also how to live a lifestyle that would not provoke his constituents.

The country woke up to the shocking news of the death of the MP for Mfantseman constituency in the Central region.

Hon. Ekow Hayford Quansah was shot and killed last Friday after his car was attacked on the Nkusukum Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road in the Central Region.

Eyewitnesses say the suspected armed robbers numbering about six started shooting at the MP’s vehicle when his driver attempted to drive through the robbery operation.

The driver was subsequently shot, resulting in him losing control over the vehicle.

Most Ghanaians have called on the state to protect the lawmakers.

Dr. Biney, commenting on the matter when speaking to Akua Nyarko Abronoma, hostess of Dinpa Anopa Bosuo Show on Dinpa 91.3FM on Tuesday October 13, said, ”We need to look at the orientation of the MPs. I suggest that, all MPs be put into orientation on personal security at GIMPA upon assumption of office by a competent security person.

They have to also talk about their lifestyle; how they conduct themselves when they have power and how they relate to their constituents who voted for them. Most of the MPs have no idea about security.”

The Managing Partner for the African Centre for Conflict Resolution Peace and Security noted that, the constituents of the Member of Parliament have some pertinent information bordering on his security that the MP is not privy to. Therefore, the good relationship between them alone is a source of security for the lawmaker.

”Our MPs must learn how to live a simple lifestyle. When you go to Holland, you see Lawyers riding bicycle to work. I am not saying MPs shouldn’t live a decent life but we need to be very careful. Our lifestyle contributes to the the kind of attacks we are witnessing these days. Its condemnable, I condemn all that is going on outright, but we also have to do our homework well”, he added.
