A Supervising High Court Judge in Sunyani, His Lordship Justice Patrick Baryeh has urged all Paramount chiefs in Ghana to follow the judicial procedure at the judicial committee as much as possible in settling disputes among their subjects to avert any further disputes among chiefs and their subordinates.

The consequences of not following judicial procedure in settling disputes will sometime compel the High Court to quash their ruling over disputes.

”We all as much as possible want to minimize chieftaincy disputes in the country and I will be happy if there is no chieftaincy dispute in the region. This will curtail a lot of troubles. Where there are chieftaincy disputes, development does not go on well because subjects are divided and invariably some are for the chief and others are against, this brings a lot of confusion in the community.”

His Lordship Justice Baryeh made this passionate appeal at the swearing in of Daasebre Okogyeaman Duodu Ampem II as the Paramount chief of Nsawkaw Traditional Area in the Tain District of the Bono Region at the first general meeting of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs July 8, 2020.

Again His Lordship Justice Baryeh lamented at the increasing rate of land disputes among the families, chiefs and communities.

He cautioned the chiefs on wrongful ways of handling lands disputes in their community.
”Chiefs should not see themselves as the only custodians of lands but rather some individuals and families also owned some portion of land”, he asserted.

Daasebre Okogyeaman Duodu Ampem II on his part said, for the development of communities and the nation as a whole, there was the need for some outmoded kingship style to be quash from kingship in the country.

Dasebre Okogyeaman Duodu Ampem II explained that, he stands for peace and unity and he’s against any exercise of superiority over others.
“Peace and unity result in development and I have come to supplement the effort of other Paramount chiefs to bring development into the region.”
