President of the National Council of PTA, Mr. Alexander Yaw Danso has said, it would be very suicidal on the part of parents who are rushing to withdraw their children from schools.

He said, parents risk their lives the more in their effort to get the students out of schools because of the fear that they could contract the coronavirus.

There was heavy security presence at the Accra Girls Senior High School after parents began trooping there to withdraw their wards.

This follows reports that the school has recorded some cases of coronavirus nearly a week after the school reopened for final year students.

KNUST SHS in Kumasi was also thrown into turmoil on Tuesday when students went on a demonstration over the death of their colleague.

The students say, out of fear that the boy may have contracted Covid-19, he was left unattended, and in the care of his colleagues for nearly three hours.

The news of his death, spiked a demonstration of the school campus, forcing armed security personnel to storm the facility to restore calm and order.

Commenting on the issue, the Council Chairman of the PTA, Mr. Yaw Danso said told Akua Nyarko Abronoma, host of Dinpa Anopa Bosuo show Thursday July 9 that, “Health experts say the incubation period of the coronavirus ranges between 14 to 21 days. The SHS 3 students are in their third week since reopening and so if any of them had the virus, this is the time the symptoms will show. We are likely to see more of such issues coming in the days ahead because the students were not tested before reopening.”

”But that does not mean parents should rush into the schools and pick their ward, that would be very dangerous.”

“You risk your live, other passengers in the car you boarded, the people living in your house and neighborhood because you don’t know the status of your child and that of the people around you.”

“It would have been better we tested the students to know their status before the reopening of the schools, we could have avoided all these brouhaha”, he stressed.
