Taking Sunyani West to the next level: why Martin Obeng should be maintained

The Sunyani West Municipality in the Bono region witnessed massive infrastructure development under the leadership of Hon. Martin Obeng, the Chief Executive.

Mr. Obeng, who was appointed by President Akuffo Addo in 2017, pushed for the upgrade of the Sunyani West District into a municipal status.

Article 243(2)(c) of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana, states that, “The District Chief Executive shall be the Chief Representative of the central government in the district”.

As the Chief representative of the Central Government, he is expected to among others effectively utilized the Assembly’s common fund and the resources accrued internally.

Despite the developmental deficit of the Municipality, Hon. Martin Obeng ensured an evenly distribution of projects to almost all deserving communities in the municipality.

Apart from bridging the gap between the ”less developed Sunyani West Municipal” and the developed ones, Mr. Obeng also played a pivotal role in the campaign of his MP, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah in the 2020 general elections which led to his resounding victory.

As the popular saying of members of the NPP goes, “One good term deserves another”, it would be very prudent to renew the mandate of Hon. Obeng to enable him take the development of the municipality to the next level.

Below are the pictorial evidence of some of the projects undertaken by the MCE.
