Western Togoland seccessionists: Go for dialogue-Security Expert

A security analyst and leading partner of African Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peace and Security (AACREPS), Dr Kwesi Biney,  has admonished the ruling government to resort to dialogue with the leaders of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) as a means of resolving the conflict of separating Western Togoland from Ghana.

Dr. Biney explained that, dialogue is the alternative dispute resolution when it comes to matters of this nature.

The 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) rounded up 21 people suspected to be linked to the separatist Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) from a secret training camp at Kpevedui, near Dzodze in the Ketu North municipality in the Volta Region, last Monday.

The recruits, made up of 20 males and a female, were busted in a dawn raid on the training camp in a valley, buried deep in a thick forest at Feivu, near Kpevedui, where they had allegedly been taken through military training for the past one week.

Until the arrest, members of the group, who are mostly in their early 20s, were said to be undergoing military drills and physical training.

They were airlifted to Accra and placed in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for further interrogations.

The HSGF, a group championing the secession of parts of Ghana along the border with Togo, declared independence for the territory they call ‘Western Togoland’ on November 16, last year.

The Director of the Royal Kingdom Security Network Limited said: ”This subject has been on, it didn’t start today. I think this is possibly the third time we are hearing the arrest of this group engaging in illegal actions.”

Speaking to Akua Nyarko Abronoma on dinpa anopa bosuo show on a Sunyani based Dinpa 91.3FM, Dr. Biney said,”But I think a time has come that we have to dialogue, me, I believe in dialogue as an alternative resolution.”When we fail to properly handle such issues as stakeholders it can trigger and bring misunderstanding.”

”I have been advocating for the past that they be invited, questioned on what exactly is their problem then find the possible solution”, he added.

Dr. Biney noted that, this is how some of the terrorist groups started and he has no doubt they are being sponsored by unknown bigwigs.
