Security begins invetigations into alleged shooting of police officer at Tema

A police officer, Lance corporal Francisca Tenge, is believed to have been accidentally shot by a military officer at Tema New Town.

She was shot in the leg by a military officer while on duty at the Tema New Town checkpoint on Thursday morning.

According to information gathered by Dinpa news both officers were on duty at the barrier when the said incident occurred.

A source at the scene told Dinpa News that the military officer, who had come for night duty and was preparing to leave his duty post was working on his rifle when the trigger of the gun accidentally went off.


A close source at the Tema Regional Police Command confirmed the incident to 
newsmen.

“The lady is fine and she is currently on admission at the Tema General Hospital and responding to treatment. What we don’t know is why the military man did that. We are yet to get information on that because we understand that there was no confrontation.”

In a release from the Tema regional police command, the police officer has been treated and discharged whilst the soldier has also been cautioned and released to his unit commander for investigations.

Tema Shooting Incident
The Tema Regional Police Command is investigating a case involving the alleged accidental shooting of the right lower thigh of a security personnel by a colleague personnel on Thursday April 9 2020at about 0600 hours.
Both personnel were performing operation covid safety duties at Tema Newtown.
The personnel who was injured was rushed to the Tema General Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
The personnel who allegedly fired the shot has been cautioned and released to his unit commander, pending further investigation.
The public is to remain calm, as investigation into the matter is ongoing.
