This year’s school placement for 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates will be released on Sunday, 21 February 2021, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has disclosed.

The placement is expected to cover both private and school candidates including re-entrants.

About 525,000 qualified BECE candidates are seeking placement into 721 Senior High, Technical and Vocational schools of their choice across the country.

According to Prof Opoku-Amankwa, there are currently less than 100 candidates whose results are being withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as the majority of withheld results of some candidates have been released.

He advised the candidates and parents not to panic because there are enough vacancies in schools for all.

Prof Opoku-Amakwa indicated that challenges with the CSSPS were not due to non-availability of space but issues of choice.

He further indicated that: “Every year when we do our placement, just as we get oversubscribed schools, we also get under-subscribed schools”.

Prof Opoku-Amankwa noted that usually, 100 schools out of the 721 were oversubscribed.

He said call centres would be set up to receive complaints in relation to the placement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year, because of the COVID-19, we want to avoid the situation where people will rush to the Black Star Square and other places to gather.

“So we are setting up call centres to receive and work on issues people may be coming up with,” Prof Opoku-Amankwa stated.
