Azumah Nelson Fight Night set for August 19

The details of the fourth edition of Ghana’s biggest boxing coronation, the Azumah Nelson Fight Night was officially outlined on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at a press meeting at the Accra City Hotel.

The very first of its kind among a series of the boxing campaigns to resurrect the image of the sport in the country, the bout dubbed ‘Ghana vs UK’ would feature the best of the burgeoning boxing talents as they parade against competitors from the United Kingdom.

Two-time Ghana super featherweight champ, Wahab Oluwaseum would be matched up against Irish opponent John Hicks as the headline bout for the day. Other UK boxers like Kieran Leinster would face Emmanuel Anim of Ghana, while London-based southpaw Anthony Ayinde will battle Ghana’s Raphael Kwabena King.

There would also be an amateur bout between Azumah Nelson Jnr, the son of the professor himself and Oliver Duffy.

The much-awaited clash is scheduled to happen at Ghana’s boxing community at the newly built Bukum Boxing Arena in Accra on 19th August 2017.

The event was moderated by Media Manager of HeMann Promotions and Programmes Director at the Azumah Nelson Foundation, Yaw Sakyi Afari who was thrilled by the support of the corporate society towards the event.

Professor Azumah Nelson reposed his unflinching confidence in all ten boxers who were personally handpicked by him.

“I believe all the boxers have great potential and have trained tirelessly for their matches and they are going to make their country proud,” the International Hall of Famer said.

He urged the boxers to be committed and disciplined in the sport to reach higher heights in boxing.

Boxing Promoter Heta Mann of HeMann Promotions urged Ghanaians to give their ultimate support to the boxers to sustain the efforts of taking boxing in Ghana to an international standard.

Tickets for the event would be sold between the ranges of GHC 30 and GHC 300 at Koala, Airport Shell, De’lish Restaurant and Airport City Hotel.
